it's happening... mfa

I reconnected with a brilliant and dynamic designer from my 1980s days at the Philadelphia College of Art, Nickie Boston... She's in the Philly region, designing professionally and successfully. Her initial venture "Ma Jolie" was a whopping retail success, as touted by the Wall Street Journal and others. So good to hear from her. Our class time together was fueled by laughter and coffee. Here she's pictured with her son... I added the bubbles after I mistakenly said she looked good while looking at a photo of her son... boy i feel stupid.

gathering MFA funding... i'm still not sure of the total costs, since many of the weeks are spent in different cities in the USA... Lots of flying and hotel stays - eating at hotdog carts and ramen noodles. I can use the adventure.

Spoke with Mark Tocchet at the UARTs Illustration program - good advice
Scott Bakal was kind enough to call me with his thoughts on the program as a 2007 graduate.
I meet with David Labrozzi, IC of Md, DC and VA's President and a fellow MFA candidate.

Minutes ago, Scott Bakal sent a blog link to Q Cassetti's blog... She is a current MFA candidate in the Hartford program... check it out here.

mfa pursuit and a silver medal

my fat head - new photo with my new glasses... and gray sideburns... pretty pathetic. I'm in the mfa mode again. giving a long, hard look at the Hartford CN program run by the Tinkelmans... really tempted to sell the house and live in a van to pay for it... still trying to get the scratch together. it's crazy money, especially coming from a person that's never owned a new car...

Write with ideas, buy art, tell your rich uncle I'm available for adoption...

i did win a silver medal last week in the book category for Vincent Van Toad of the 14th annual Illustrators Club of DC,MD n VA's juried show. opening is May 8 at 6:30 till 8:30 at the PEPCO Edison Place Gallery, 702 Eighth Street, NW (between G n H) Washington DC, 20068. PLEASE COME! The show runs through June 27th if you're in the nation's capital during the summer.

FINALLY DONE!!!

My short chapter in the Trickster anthology is finished. It started back in October... and saddled my movements throughout the winter months. With the maples beginning to show buds, I close this chapter with the passing of the snow. It was great to listen to Hawai'ian music throughout the project, as I researched and gathered inspiration from all over... the only thing missing was a trip to Hawai'i's Waipi'o Valley to see it all in real life. Oh well... that's for artists with budgets, which I don't have. NOW, on to the Artists' Cartel "Miss America" show - more as that gets up to speed.
